About Hasami Yaki Porcelain

The Kodama family has been making ceramics for generations in Hasami, Nagasaki, Japan long before Kaoru Kodama, their founder and the former company chairman of Saikai Toki, started selling the family’s products on the street in a hand-pulled cart in 1946. 11 years later he founded Saikai Toki Ltd., a trading company to source ceramic wares of the whole Bizen region, which is one of the most famous pottery-producing areas in Japan. The name Saikai Toki derived from Saikai Bridge in the city whose construction was just finished then with the hope of serving as a bridge between goods and people and enriching people’s lives. This mission went across the ocean first to Singapore, then expanded into many more places in the world as they set up branches in the United States, China and Europe. Saikai Toki have been since introducing Hasami-yaki ceramics and other Japanese fine porcelain worldwide.
